Introduction

Take teamwork and communication to new heights with The Big Picture – an artistic teambuilding activity where creativity meets collaboration.
Your team will co-create a large-scale artwork composed of many smaller canvases – a striking reminder of what’s possible when teams align around a shared vision.

How the Activity Works

Inspired by David Hockney’s iconic “Grand Canyon” painting – constructed from 24 individual panels – this experience divides participants into small teams. Each team receives a set of individual canvas tiles to paint, using only verbal coordination to match colors, textures, and details with the other teams.

The twist?
No team sees the full image – and no two groups paint side by side.

To succeed, teams must:

• Share knowledge across groups

• Use clear, structured communication

• Work towards a common visual goal

• Coordinate color, form, and timing without direct visual comparison

The result is both a striking collective artwork and a powerful metaphor: we each contribute a part, but only together do we create “the big picture.”

Location and Execution

The activity can be hosted indoors at your workplace, conference venue, or a creative space. All materials (canvases, paints, easels) are included. The final artwork can be mounted and displayed as a permanent symbol of your team’s unity.
